Job Description:

Title:

Minister Palmer Christian Church

Palmer Christian Church is seeking a part-time preaching minister. The congregation consists of a broad age range with more than half comprising families with young children. Presently our youth range in age from 11 years old and younger. We would like to build on the potential that Christ has provided in our church.

Purpose:

To proclaim the Gospel, pray for the Body, disciple leaders and raise up mature Christians.

Administrative Duties:

The Minister shall organize his office and maintain a schedule acceptable and available to the congregation. Office hours shall be determined in conjunction with the congregation.

  1. The Minister shall participate in organization and leadership meetings.

  2. The Minister shall participate in ad hoc committees as necessary, serving as a resource person in an advisory position only. (1 Corinthians 12:4 31)

  3. The Minister shall work with the elders to administer church discipline as necessary. (2 Timothy 4:1,2, Acts 20:31, 32)

  4. The Minister shall be responsible for mentoring and developing congregational members towards the goal of ministerial excellence. (1Timothy 4:5, Matthew 5:16, James 2:18, Hebrews 10:25, Colossians 3:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Ephesians 6:18, Galatians 2:9, Ephesians 4:11-16,2 Corinthians 13:9, 1 Corinthians 1:10)

  5. The Minister shall exemplify and advocate clear and effective communication in all areas of church life and activity. (1 Corinthians 1:18,19, Philippians 3:17)

  6. The Minister shall perform whatever administrative duties not mentioned above are necessary for the smooth operation of church ministry.

Ministerial Duties:

The Minister shall conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc. as requested by family and relevant members. (Acts 15: 1-29, Romans 7: 2-6, 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, 1 Corinthians 6:16-20, 7:39,2 Corinthians 6:4, Matthew 19:6, Hebrews 13:4)

  1. The Minister shall fulfill pulpit duties. He shall seek the salvation and maturing of the congregation through evangelism in teaching and preaching of Scripture. (1 Timothy 4:15-16, 1 Corinthians 10:33, Romans 11:14, 10:1,8-15, 1 Thessalonians 2:16)

  2. The Minister shall provide or arrange for the provision of counseling members as needed. (2 Corinthians 1:3-7, 1 Thessalonians 2:8-12, Romans 12:15)

  3. The Minister shall arrange for follow-up on all visitors. (1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:8, 1 John 3:17, James 2:15-18)

  4. The Minister shall teach as necessary. (1 Timothy 4:15-16, 1 Corinthians 10:33, 10:1, 8-15, 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16)

  5. The Minister shall visit or arrange for the visitation of the sick and shut-ins.

  6. The Minister shall oversee the addition and instruction of new members. (Mark 16:15,16, Acts 2:47,4:4,5:14, 17:12, Romans 1: 11, 12)

  7. The Minister shall, in conjunction with the congregation members, prayerfully provide direction for the development, planning, and programming of the church.

  8. The Minister shall provide, in conjunction with the elders, a vision of outreach to the community. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

  9. Other duties as assigned.

Personal Duties:

  1. The Minister shall keep a regular personal study and prayer time as well as leading in corporate prayer. (2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 3:14-21, Colossian 1:9-11)

  2. The Minister shall be committed to his own family, seeing that their needs are met and thereby providing an example to the congregation of a godly home life. (1Timothy 3:4)

Professional Duties:

The Minister shall pursue community involvement representing his vocation in the civic arena and thereby extending his spiritual influence to the public sphere.

  1. The Minister shall represent our church in citywide events when appropriate and necessary.

  2. If desired, the Minister shall avail himself of opportunities for professional development as they become available and where they do not conflict with fulfilling his primary obligations.

  3. He shall be concerned for gaining and keeping the good will of the community toward the congregation. (Philippians 1:9-11, 27, Colossians 1:5,6, 1 Peter 2:12)

  4. Other duties as assigned.
