About Us

What We Believe at Palmer Christian Church

THE BIBLE -The Bible is the Word of God. It is the one and final authority for every aspect of our lives; and is used to seek God's direction.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) - “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

CREATION - God is the absolute and sole creator of the universe. The literal, 7-day creation was by divine, supernatural direction as recorded in scripture.

Genesis 1:1 (NIV) – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

John 1:3 (NIV) - “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

GOD & THE TRINITY -There are three persons of the Godhead -Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three personalities exist as one.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) - “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

2 Corinthians 13:14 (NIV) - “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

JESUS CHRIST - We believe that Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man, born of a virgin, living a sinless life. He taught and performed miracles exactly as revealed in the four Gospels. He was crucified, died as a surrogate sacrifice for our sins. He was physically raised on the third day after His death, and later ascended to the Father's right hand where He is the head of the church and intercedes for believers. We believe He will come back for His church personally, bodily, visibly, to establish His eternal kingdom.

The Gospels -Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John

THE HOLY SPIRIT - The Holy Spirit is an individual force, and is God -possessing all divine attributes. He works through and resides in Christians at the moment of their salvation.

John 16:8 (NIV) - “When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.”

Romans 8:11 (NIV) - “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you”

SALVATION AND BAPTISM - God, by His sovereign choice sent Christ into the world to save sinners.

John 3:16 (NIV) - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

We believe that salvation is open to all people, and that all are called to this end.

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) - “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Salvation is purchased by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:2 (NIV) - “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”

We believe that we must respond through belief.

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) - “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

...repentance,

Acts 17:30 (NIV) - “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.”

...confession,

Romans 10:10 (NIV) - “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

...baptism,

Romans 6:3-4 (NIV) - “Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

1 Peter 3:21 (NIV) - “and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,”

...and a continued life in Christ,

1 John 1:6-7 (NIV) - “If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

Through this comes the beginning of a new nature,

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) - “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

The forgiveness of sins and the gift of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38 (NIV) - “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’ ”

...and the hope of eternal life,

1 John 5:13 (NIV) - “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV) - “God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”

ABOUT LIFE WITH - Every Christian is called to grow to spiritual maturity and use the abilities God has given them in His service.

Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) - “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
